Finca El Boquerón takes its name from a deep and natural hole found in the middle of the farm. Samuel says that his story in the coffee industry started long ago. “I worked with my uncles on their farms since I was a child, thanks to them, I learned a lot about coffee. At the age of 20, I decided to go to work in the city of San Pedro Sula to work in a textile factory and as a baker. I worked there for 10 years and managed to build my house with all my savings, but I was very tired of living in the city, it is an overly complex life. I like the countryside; I am happy here. So, when I was 30 years old, my mother gave me a property of one hectare as an inheritance, there I began to plant coffee.
7 years ago, I was able to buy the other part of the farm from a neighbour and plant it with Parainema coffee. 5 years ago, I started processing specialty coffee, following in the footsteps of a cousin who processed a batch differently and sold it for a better price. So, I approached Benjamín (cousin) and told him that I wanted to try it too. When I finally brought the sample, he told me it had potential, since then, I process all my coffee as specialty.” Samuel is motivated to produce specialty coffees as he sees his family doing better, his children educated, and knowing he can achieve competitive prices.
